I am currently doing a quantitative study with one independent variable (Learning Management Systems) and one dependent variable (students' perceptions) through a seven-point Likert scale questionnaire. What kind of tests would be most advantageous to run?
If you are using a latent variable (in the meaning of multiple items) to measure LMS and students' perceptions, I will suggest (step 1) Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) - to reduce dimensionality - and (step 2) Regression Analysis - to test the "influence" of independent variables in a dependent variable (y=a+bx). There is an alternative way: the use of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), that unites EFA and Regression.
If you are using single items to measure LMS and students' perceptions, I will suggest Spearman Correlation (if you have only two variables: dependent and independent) or Regression Analysis (if you have only more than two independent variables [controls, covariates, e.g.]: y=a+b1x1+b2x2).
