In a project investigating the challenges facing the scientific community, I am asking researchers to consider what is the greatest problem facing their field at this time, and formulate a question.
The result is to be a series of multi-authored papers like: Light, the universe and everything – 12 Herculean tasks for quantum cowboys and black diamond skiers, which addressed chellenges facing quantum optics.
An earlier publication presented a personal selection of questions in fundamental physics, written with Roland E Allen, and a colleague, Alan Coley, has written on Open problems in mathematical phycics.
Questions are sought across the sciences and can include broader matters such as "What question would you like to see resolved in your lifetime?"
The paper currently reaching finalisation is on quantum and mesoscopic physics.
