What quantity and duration of essential oils should be inhaled for relief in psychiatric disorders?

I am interested in research on the therapeutic effects of essential oils in humans and would like to do it in my experiment but I don't have an information on it. Does anyone have any references in this area?

It is said that for example depressed patients should use aromatherapeutic diffuser with lavender oil, so I would say that exposition should be very mild and last hours. Duration can be one of experiment variables.
