I am doing a research project into the prevalence of pharmaceuticals in surface water and i was looking to see if anyone knew of any up to date articles. Additionally, is their any priority pharmaceuticals which need to be assessed beyond the EU "watch list"

a recent article was published by Kümmerer and Olson. One very interesting diagram shows the shift in usage of different pharmaceuticals over time.

At the moment I am purely interested in surface water and not effluent from wastewater treatment plants.
Dylan, dismissing wastewater effluent may be premature. What do you think is the dominant source of the pharmaceuticals in surface waters?
