We know pangasius (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) is a voracious omnivore fish, I'm going to formulate a feed to carry out research by pangasius fingerling. Please suggest me how much protein % require in feed?
Greetings. The dietary protein requirement for growth of Pangasianodon hypophthalmus fingerlings is 37 %. You may also refer the following article published in Aquaculture Nutrition: Protein requirement of juvenile striped catfish, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus.
I would like to add something to my previous answer, actually the term protein requirement is misnomer, it's actually 1. Requirement of specific Essential amino acid and 2. Sufficient amount of non-specific amino group for synthesis of non essential amino acids. In general we only talk about the CP (Crude protein) requirement. But for your better result you can maintain the lysine and methionine level at 5.35 and 2.67 (percentage minimum of dietary protein) during feed formulation.
Actually my main work on oral vaccination of biofilm of Aeromonas hydrophila on pangasius catfish. Initially my intention was to purchase a feed from market. After that I changed my mind and going for preparation of a diet for pangasius catfish. In literature sometimes it was confusing as you stated "it vary with climatic conditions".
Any way thanks for your answer and please if you don't interested to share your knowledge you can skip. No more discussion please.
The absolute protein requirement of Pangasianodon hypophthalmus fingerlings is 37.1 % in clear water. In green water or pond condition, you can reduce the protein level to 30-32%, because some amount (4-5%) protein would be contributed by primary production of pond environment.
