I would also add the misinformation of downplaying the use of a mask, lack of PPE or even hand sanitizer, promoting ineffective ”cures” and resistance on the part of local government officials to enact shelter-in-place orders

In the U.S. how serious it was taken depends on where you live. I’m in the New York area and we were the hardest hit. We took it very serious and still are. My town is not yet open. Other more rural parts of the country were more resistant to going into lockdown.

Yes, we know about the New York, of course hardest hit. Why do you fail to control it earlier having one of the world best health system so far? What ever might be the reason internal or external do you think about decision-making problem there? @ dear Donna Lisi

Alot had to do with the availability of PPE and the lack of testing kits. Since the CDC had came out against masks, no one was using them and their use was actually discouraged. The system, which is one of the best in the world, was overwhelmed by the shear volume of people who became ill at one time. Emergency departments were overrun. Staff were getting sick and dying. Nursing homes became the epicenter later on because of the shear vulnerability of this patient population. Other factors include the close proximity that folks live and work to each other. All created a perfect storm. However, NY and the tri-state area took the actions that needed to be taken when they became clear. It was with much hard work and sacrifice that we have flattened the curve. Measures are still ongoing.

Based on my point of view, there are two main reasons from the East and the west (1) China did not publish the truth in time until they could no longer cover the fact, (2) westerners‘ individualism made them hard to follow some order, e.g., stay home, curfew, wearing a mask, allowing cell phone GPS contact tracing....
