Earthen pond are the natural environment for growth of fish.So,it is always preferred.

But sometimes, in certain circumstances people resort to various method to safeguard the ponds from leaching.

You are right surely , but our problem is the scarcity of water , so we have to follow the artificial ways to consume water.

There are two approaches you can use. If you have significant loss due to seepage you can install a hypoline liner and then backfill on top of that. That way your loss to seepage is reuduced to zero and you still have a "soil" pond environment, but this is expensive. If you have good soil and some moderate seepage, which will always be the case, you can reduce seepage by adding bentonite or a similar clay. Bentonite swells when wet and this reudes pore size, reducing seepage loss.
