I think "AI" not exist. Theory of "AI" is useful in better understanding and modeling the principle of brain performance. The nature of intelligence and consciousness cannot be studied in principle. The requirements to adaptive systems are artificially inflated. For the existence of nature and human being, optimality makes no difference. Nature and human being - not optimal, but rational biosystems, where trial and error method dominates. Therefore, expediency of the result is quite sufficient. Nature 's intelligence is chaos, its behaviour impossible to predict exactly in advance. Therefore, instead of AI and evolutionary algorithms, a primitive processor is used to fit a bad result to the desired result. And that 's AI?

In its purest form AI is automation. Really good automation, really fast automation, really powerful automation, but automation. Complex pattern recognition has been "deciphered" in sciences such as the six - or 5 or 7:) - Gestalt principles described almost a century ago in the 1920's. Stochastic learning and application in Markov chains isn't new and Bayesian statistics have been around for a while.
What we call AI is the automation of these models and tools on systems that are able to conduct unfathomable volumes of calculations and the data in the correct form to "teach" these machines what patterns are normal to human beings. Think of a million actuaries on a million spreadsheets working for a million years...
Those who build AI and research new avenues and applications are brilliant engineers building machines in pursuit of the commercial benefits of science - the pursuit itself is neither good nor bad; It isn't moral or immoral, it is amoral (having no understanding of either).
AI is benign and uncorrupted and has no concept of motive or drive -it doesn't deserve its notorious reputation.
It is the fact that like nukes, this tool is in the hands of human beings that should engender fear. Trump has AI, Kim has AI, Vladimir has AI, Boris has AI... The design and purpose of AI is directed by men who -in my opinion - have already determined whether it will be used for good or evil - looking at our world today, I'm not very comfortable.
I agree! Thank you, very deep judgement. It is difficult to disagree that the choice of using so-called "AI" towards "evil" for the majority of mankind has already been made. And it 's impossible to stop. Although the concepts of "evil" and "good" are very relative...: -)
I think predicting on the impact of AI on society in the future isn't an easy task because to me AI is affected by the society. Humans of today are in charge of building AI, and we build from experience, and what we build also changes depending on how these experiences change, e.g Facial Recognition systems were discovered to be biased because of the data sets we used in training the models, and because of that, we tried to improve the data sets by making them more diverse. So whether AI will positively or negatively affect the society in the future is fully dependent on our response to its impact on the society today.
According to PwC, 7 million existing jobs will be replaced by AI in the UK from 2017-2037, but 7.2 million jobs could be created. This uncertainty and the changes to how some will make a living could be challenging.
The transformative impact of artificial intelligence on our society will have far-reaching economic, legal, political and regulatory implications that we need to be discussing and preparing for. Determining who is at fault if an autonomous vehicle hurts a pedestrian or how to manage a global autonomous arms race are just a couple of examples of the challenges to be faced.
