That question is very good and there are many opinions on the web, everything indicates that there will be many changes, but the main concern is climate change and the way to reduce it or learn to live with it.

higher education will be individually tailors to suit the students interests, talents and strengths.
Interesting topic, my speculation is, it will be digitally driven, focusing on STEM system, activity based. Also, it will be more aligned with individual's preference based on their interest, strength and competency as mentioned by Masanja.It will be more inclined towards value delivery rather than dumping information.
With all the advancement in technology and too much dependency to it... I see school-less and university-less in 2040 because everything will be virtual by that time. School transactions will be online, teaching learning will be online... We may not even sure in 2040 wether we are talking with a human, humanoid or a robot.
Everything in 2040 will be borderless...
