Specifically, there are some available downscaling models, such as SDSM, that are extensively used in climate change studies. However, downscaling precipitation yields quite weak results, in particular the variance is really poorly reproduced. There are other models that use better modeling techniques. What is your experience with downscaling models?
GCMs themselves are very poor in modeling the variance. If the parent models are poor, you can't expect that the downscaling models will improve the simulations of variability. So my answer is to improve the performance in simulating temporal variability, the parent GCMs have to be improved. You can't improve it by changing the downscaling model.
i don't have software to reproduce the results but I have a long climate data of my region and population of insect on which I m working. few days before I had been at IIT Mumbai too.Improvement is necessary for all the models where temperature sensitivity during all the years is changing .
