Reading papers on iota carrageenan's FTIR spectroscopy, I found a band ascertained to be 'water deformation, at around 1640 /cm. I could not find an answer to the question of what water deformation is.

Thereseems to be a shoulder higher than 1620 cm- so the water deformation maybe the lowering of about 1660ish cm-1 to 1620 cm-1.

H-O-H bending might be labelled as such. But, other sources say O-H bending occurs around 1000 to 1300 /cm, while above sources point at around 1640 /cm
