Stimulation of value creation is a key element of platform thinking. To stimulate value creation focal actor (research gate) must develop capability to motivate non-focals (scholars globally) to participate (scholars globally?) in the innovation ecosystem. Direct network effects occur when increase in usage increases value for other users of the same type, while indirect network effects take place in multi-sided markets, where participation of one user group depends on the size of another user group. Intrinsic motivations are non-tangible incentives, such as RG Scores, reputation, recognition, or intellectual challenge. However, to trigger network effects and attract ecosystem participants a platform owner (research gate) must ensure a sufficiently large participants.
