Qualitative and interpretive research methods help to understand the concepts/themes which are almost new and not enough significant work is available to explain those concepts. Using qualitative and interpretive method one can come up with some exploratory/ conceptual level explanation of these concepts that can be considered as a base for further research i.e. empirical, case study, etc.
I have seen the relevance of qualitative and interpretive research methods during my research in the area of Organization Vitality. It was a big challenge to work in the area/theme where very limited work had been done before. Moreover, the limited works were in the form of expert views and perception rather than based on any significant research. The qualitative and interpretive methods helped me to explore the Vitality area and to develop two interpretive models, and one conceptual research framework for further research.
These were the base models for empirical and case study to develop the final validated model to explain the concept of organization vitality and vitalization processes, and managing these processes using strategic knowledge management.
