What is the significance/importance of identifying Symbiodinium at subclade level?

The use of molecular techniques in delineating the diversity of marine organisms had expanded our knowledge in several aspects. I'm interested to know the need of identifying a Symbiodinium up to sub-clade level and how it can farther our understanding of their ecology, evolution and adaptation?
