Somehow roundish.... They have been taking pictures of some atoms which were quite photogenic. And there is was indeed somehow round. So it could be round. I think they are roundish. But maybe not exactly round. One never knows for sure because all taken pictures are not that exact so far. I guess that our understanding of atoms being perfectly round is just an ideal. It could also be that they are more squarish than roundish or maybe egg-shaped. Who knows.. I wished I had an atom. They are said to be nice pets. All you need is a Faraday cage.
Thanks Carmen. I have read the first paper on shape of an atom which explained it contradictory which is attached herewith. it is claimed that it depends on orbitals, outer valence electrons and other factors as you pointed out.
It sounds reasonable, doesn't it? But that is the case with many things, that they sound reasonable. And yet they must not be true. True in the sense of 'realistic describtion'. What do you personally think is more important: That we have a model which helps us to calculate outcomes and then it is not so much important of what components our 'machine' which produces the outcome consists? Or that the machine we build (meaning the describtion) should at least be an image of reality?
