Nylon is a generic designation for a family of synthetic polymers, more specifically aliphatic or semi-aromatic polyamides. They can be melt-processed into fibers, films or shapes. The orientation crystalline polymer could be effect on physical and mechanical properties.
Texture means a deviation from isotropy. If your material - here nylon - has a strong anisotropy (along the chains of the molecule), any texture will strongly affect the properties. This is well known for mechanical properties but also for thermal or electric conductivity, optical properties etc. There are only a few properties which are not anisotropic, especially if they are based on the atomic bonding.
If you will produce films and the chains will arrange more or less parallel, in direction of the changes the mechanical stability is much stronger than perpendicular. Because of homogeneity reasons you might be interested to prevent such behavior. For fibers it is opposite: you want to have nearly all chains exactly aligned parallel to the fiber axis.

not about nylon, only about crystalline materials. However, the difference shouldn't be that big. On the other hand I cannot believe that for these non-crystalline materials no fundamental discussions exist..

The literature and the industrial applications (production of fibres, monofilaments, films, etc.) are very reach in the examples followed by you. To take the case of nylon, the different techniques of “drawing” with effects in orientation of macromolecular chains and in the increase of crystallinity, have important effects on the thermo-mechanical properties of nylon products (see you also effects of crystallinity on the properties of nylons). I will give some selected examples from literature…that can help you more (or less)...
