I think there needs to be a group of people who are professionals at economics, political science, and jurisprudence to build a nation that survives into the future.
I really agree with you Dr Kirk, but what can we say when the wrong professional is place to head a field or sector he knows nothing about can their be any future development for such country?
I am not sure, what you mean with 'wrong professional'. Skills, Knowledge are not only the only preconditon to improve. Good will, intentions and governance is equally important.
Professionalism is Key is to national development. When professionals stick to the ethics of their profession, the nation would benefit on the long run.
The professional bureaucratic model was deemed the most efficient by Weber and indeed the East India company which built the British empire in the sub-continent was a prime leader in developing this professional model of nation and empire building. This model was used to develop the civil service in the UK and France for example. However this model has come under pressure since 1979 from new public management which sees management as opposed to professionalism as the key to successful economies.

Participating in nation-making has always attracted professionals, including teachers because the new nation-state they are creating will offer them opportunities to dominate their professions. In each nation-state , in which professionals are self-governing, separation gives professionals control of the new professional organizations and dominance of professional positions. This isn't the only reason so many professionals support nationalism, but it explains their strong interest in it.
Dear Eberhard Weber what i meant by wrong professional is when a Barrister (SAN) is chosen to be the Minister of Work, transport and Power. Can they be any meaningful productivity from him in Nation building?
