Are there environmental treatments to avoid drought stress?
Well, it is not very easy to manipulate environment.However we can modify, micro climate in the crop environment by several interventions.
There are numerous techniques available to tackle the environmental stress.
Heat evasion in cases of high temperature
Heat traping in the temperate conditions.
Milching and ploughing are also effective methods to retard heat from the soil and save the crops.
Wind break and shelterbelts to reduce the wind flow and thereby ET losses in the crops.
Application of foliar spray such as thourea during the sensitive stage of the crop to the heat.
Agronomic practices such as shifting of the dates of sowing and plant spacing can also be strategically used to manager the stress.
Applications of ET reducing chemicals called the antitranspirants also help to reduce and modifyong the microclmate of the crops.
Light irrigation may be applied at frequent interval to save the crops from the hear socks.
Development of short duration cultivars for water saving.
Heat tolerant varieties.
There are many more techniques either engineering or agronomic or phyiological.

It is not possible to manipulate an environment but the little sorrundings of the crop can be altered to suit the crop for production. This can be done in a secluded area such as green house.

I agree with my colleagues about the modification of the micro-climate with good agriculture practice which can lead to good crop yield and quality .
Modification or manipulation of environment is a difficult task. But we can modify the cultivation area of a crop by adopting various advanced technology viz., green house, sensor based irrigation system, polyculture etc. to overcome the crop stress condition.
Breeding for development new crop varieties adapted to the target environment and good agricultural practices are important
