What is the relationship between discourses (messages) and collective behavior?

If different types of discourse produce different types of adherence, what characterizes the discourses that produce effects on the masses to the point of triggering frames of collective possession and, on the other hand, what intrinsic factors cause the passive surrender of the masses to the messages that are sent to them, making them cognitively immune to opposing argumentation?
