What is the problem with 5GHz ?

Considering the less busy wireless band why developers are still interested on 2.4Ghz for technologies like wifi?

I have to believe it is only because it penetrates better through walls and floors. I have both available from the same access point. I always use 5 GHz, but the signal from the 2.4 GHz is often full strength, even when the 5 GHz signal is not.
