The question is regarding the present scenario and future of biodiesel globally. I am working in the field of biodiesel for past ten years and every time I speak about it someone or other ends up the talk plainly saying "FIELD OF BIODIESEL IS SATURATED". If its true ,biodiesel would have been already available as a commercial fuel throughout the world but percentage of its end consumer is very low.
So regarding this, I wish to get feedback from researchers all over the world hoping biodiesel would serve as a better alternative fuel in its present scenario and in future.

The feedstock and cost are the main challenges for commercializing biodiesel from the past years. It will only sustain if somehow biodiesel cost fall below the mineral diesel.
The production of crop-based biofuels for the purposes of increase renewable energy use and reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions that causes global warming becomes mandatory and important. The basic policies supporting crop based biofuels are : impacts on the magnitude and volatility of crop and food prices; economic costs of increased biofuel utilization; size of the net contribution of crop-based biofuels to restrain CO2 emissions; (d) potential impacts on the local environment and agricultural practices of increasing biofuels production; and the potential contribution of increased biofuels production to reducing sensitivity of the economy to oil price shocks and improving rural life. Production of global biofuels increased almost between 2004 and 2010, from 42 billion liters to 104 billion liters. Expansion of biofuels also has the potential to increase if the land to grow biofuel feedstocks increased. So, the second generation of biofuels which are not used for food are important and play a significant role in the overall supply of fuels in the near future.

Currently biodiesel being utilized many countries in the world from 2% to 7.5%. The usage percentage will be increased until minimum 10% or even to 15%. It is really an impact on fuel energy system. Indonesia is currently using 20% biodiesel in engine-vehicles.
It is possible to make biodiesel as one of the alternative fuels. But government involvement is required to achieve this.
