Rehabilitation professionals are currently experiencing challenges in the rehabilitation processes of individuals on ARVs especially those presenting with neurological problems.
The need for rehabilitation will always arise in a situation where an illness (especially chronic type) leads to some kind of disability or handicap.Such situations can arise directly from HIV impact or as a result of its treatment with ARVs. Some of these sequelae include Neuropathy, mental illness and stigma to mention just a few. Therefore, rehabilitation in HIV is not only needed, but should also be integrative, comprehensive and multi-dimensional: It must include physiotherapy, psycho-social and occupational rehabilitation and vocational training etc. Rehabilitation should constitute an important part of the HIV management process. By so doing, the perceived challenges will hopefully reduce drastically. I hope this is helpful.
