I got 14000 kg/day electrolysis system, what is the meaning of electrolyser power rating and what the relation between the power rating and electric grid interacting?
The water electrolyser splits water to hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen is used as a fuel.
It can be stored and transported. One important property as a fuel that has no emissions that can harm the environment.
Purposely the electrolyser consumes DC electrical energy to analyse the water and produce hydrogen. So , it efficiency is defined by the ratio of produced hydrogen gas in normal cubic meter to the consumed kilowatt hour electricity to produce the gas. So the units of the efficiency is Nm^3 hydrgen gas/ kwh electricity. Purposely the quantity given in the data sheet is the inverse of the efficiency. For commercial electrolyser it amounts to 3.8 - 4.4 kWh/Nm³ according to the data sheet given in the link at the end of the post.
The other important performance parameter is the production capacity which is the produced hydrogen per hour say 150-300 Nm^3/ hr. May be one of the other important performance parameters is hydrogen purity. The feed water consumption is one of the electrolyser characteristics. It amounts normally to 0.9 litre / Nm³ H₂.
