How defected ground surface improve the performance of antenna? and how we can find the location of DGS so that we get maximum bandwidth and gain of microstrip patch antenna?
What is reason behind that matching improved by using DGS in MPA?
Both are completely different. EBG is the electromagnetic band gap or PBG structure where structure is being changed using EBG or PBG. But DGS is structure that can be generated by cutting the ground plane or creating defect in ground plane, it doesn't mean to change the material properties.
A DGS can be a one-dimensional EBG material. A Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) can be a two-dimensional EGB material, it is all a matter of how you design it. The pattern in the ground plane can generate a band-gap or negative phase velocity - I have seen a published example of a ring coupler where one quarter-wave section had negative phase velocity so that it gave the required 3/4 wavelength delay.
