Nowadays, hundreds of research initiatives worldwide are redesigning the Internet. We also have an effort called NovaGenesis at Inatel, Brazil. Frequently, people ask why to change to a new Internet? A typical answer to this question is that new applications can emerge to change the world again. Thus, what could be this "killer application" that could justify to change the Internet to a new architecture?
Well there are many concepts regarding the internet change and theory. If we do not change the internet time by time. People will get tired of it. It is a common human habit to get bored of things that are constant.
The killer application would be a search designed with the human mind. Just a clip or cap to human mind and whatever he/she thinks is searched or displayed.
Some thing more like that drawing objects. All are not expert in drawing.. A application that can transform human thinking into a hard or soft format. That is my thinking, that cannot be accurate.
One such killer application is already being pushed forward by Vint Cerf. The so called "Interplanetary Web" to boldly support the human presence in space and future space business such as scientific expeditions to the moon and asteroid mining. This is a trillionaire industry and is unfolding right now.
Check out for instance Planetary Resources http://www.planetaryresources.com/ for a serious asteroid mining company with a mid-term plan to go to space and SpaceX http://www.spacex.com/ for another that is already building spacecrafts for private space travel and cargo transport.
I can't think of a more disrupting killer application leading to a new Internet than this.

I think one killer application is going to be AGI - Artificial General Intelligence, including natural language machine learning. AI assistants, etc.
