Astrocyte is the building block of CNS and its activation has a beneficial role in maintenance of CNS. What is its function in the genesis of the neuron?
In several aspects, astrocytes play vital role in CNS. Whether activation of astrocytes, and astrogliosis / gliosis is helpful for neuron health and integrity.
It could be argued that adult neural stem cells are essentially astrocytes that specialize in the production of other neural cell types, including neurons. So I would say that one function of the astrocyte in the genesis of the neuron is that the astrocyte directly generates the neuron— a pretty critical function, wouldn't you say?
