Multi-Sensor fusion and Complex Event Processing both address the combination of information originating from different sources. To me it seems that if CEP focuses a little bit more on dynamic events, while multi-sensor fusion is dedicated to a less abstract data-level. However, does anybody know about the exact differences between those two concepts?
I partially agree with you. I would say that Complex Event Processing is practically equivalent to high-level data fusion (i.e. the higher levels of the JDL model). Indeed, according to my understanding, not only CEP focuses on dynamic events but also sensor fusion (for example just think about tracking, filtering and change detection problems). The only difference lies in the level of abstraction of the model components.
Thank you very much for your answer. I think another difference could be the point of view. Since sensor fusion is much more dedicated to raw sensory information (in order to generate value-added information of "higher quality"), CEP has a stronger relation to dynamic events. This takes part on the level of decision making. However, it totally agrees with your answer, which mentioned a higher level of abstraction.
