When we increase the voltage rating, the magnitude of VFTO in gas insulated substation also increases. What are the effects in such case. I have attached the simulation result of VFTO across busbar of 750KV, 500KV and 235KV GIS.
I will try to organise the effects according to VFTO propagation:
Internal transient voltages: leading to travelling waves between inner conductors to enclosures - effects are largely insulation stresses in primary equipment.
External transient voltages: can have three types of propagation with consequent effects:
Transient enclosure voltages: leads to stresses in secondary equipment.
Transient electromagnetic fields: leads to stresses in secondary equipment.
Travelling waves in OHT lines: leads to stresses in air insulated operating equipment.
That is the story, in a nutshell. For details, try consulting the IEC 62271-102 standards.
