We would like to know whether pump laser field profile has any effect on signal laser light field distribution in a fiber amplifier. While stimulated emission in a doped fiber, how do signal and pump fields interact?

The most complicated situation is when your active fiber supports few spatial modes at both pump and signal wavelengths as their spatial overlapping will be very unstable. When both signals present a single-mode profile, although no total overlapping among them occurs, this overlapping is practically constant all along the fiber. Similar situation occurs for highly multimode fibers at both wavelengths, practically a total signal-pump overlap occurs. Hope this is of help. Regards :-).
