I'm using Patchmaster (HEKA). And I would like to get my TAU out of my seal-test recordings. Is this usually done with Fitmaster (HEKA)? Or is IGOR Pro the better choice? There also is the Patchers Power Tools around (https://www.wavemetrics.com/users/tools_aux001.htm). Is it used frequently? Any advices for a beginner?

Personally, I was using Fitmaster to analyze recordings obtained from patchmaster. I would suggest you too to use Fitmaster as well as this software is paired with patchmaster to analyze data offline. It is easy and robust too.

My experience has been using the tool Igor and I found a little troublesome, but the results have also been reliable.

Though you can get a membrane time constant reading using functions built into software, it's important to know how it is calculated in order to make a valid interpretation. An example of a decently devastating error would be an inaccurately high time constant in the case your cells have multiple significant compartments.
