Are there any standards on the time required to sufficiently remove moisture from this sample? We're planning on oven drying at 100 degrees Celsius but then we realized we don't have any basis for how long.
Hi, I never worked with your material, but the normal practice to dry materials is in an oven at 105°C, monitoring the mass of the sample: weight the original sample, take normally at least 24 hrs in the oven and then, each one to two hours, weight again, until the mass difference is zero. Tho weight you have to cool the sample in a desiccator.
Try to dry your sample for the minimum period you think your sample can take to dry which depends upon the moisture content of the sample. As husk has quite less moisture content, 15-20 g of it takes nearly 7 hrs. to dry at 100 0C. Check the dried weight of the sample after 7 hrs. (only after bringing it to RT). Then, again keep the sample in oven and weigh every 1-2 hrs. till you get constant dried weight.
The duration of drying is very much dependent upon the amount of sample at a given temperature.
