The GC-MS System used for separation of volatile terpenes gave good results because of the compounds involved. The terpenes were able to go into their gaseous forms with the use of a gas as the medium for separation in the GC-MS than in the HPLC. Limonene was used to run since it is a terpene just as the ones you found in hop, it is most often found together with the other volatile terpenes in essential oils. Also appear in the same range of retention time on a chromatogram or spectrum.

In GC-MS analysis peaks of these compounds are mostly found within the same range of retention time indicating polarities of these compounds are not too different from one another i.e . they fall within the same range in terms of polarity

Limonene was found in hop. For quantification was limonene standard used? If yes then calibration will give the exact quantity of limonene in hop

We had made standard curves with limonene, caryophyllene, humulene. We had to measure the amount of limonene, caryophyllene, humulene and myrcene in a hop sample. Strangely, the teacher did not ask us to make a standard curve for myrcene. In our report, what is the use of limonene in the experiment? I then thought we were using its standard curve to deduce the amount of myrcene, since we do not have a standard curve for myrcene.
