Hydrothermal is related to hot water-bearing solutions leading to any kind of mineral alteration or precipitation up to 700°C. You can distinguish subcritical solutions up to ca. 400°C from supercritical ones with temperatures above 400°C.

Metasomatic is in principle the replacement of an old mineral by a new mineral. Often used in ore mineralogy for skarn deposits. The temperature range and the state of the fluid (supercritical or subcritical) has no bearing on the process.
