Hello researchers,
I am conducting a factor analysis (FA). In this FA there are some items on student performance or achievement in relation to different subjects and skills. Each student has been assessed by their main teacher in relation to their skill level in Danish, math, natural sciences, music, reading etc. on a scale from 1 - 5 (from poor to great).
The reliability is high and there is a high degree of correlation between the items. However, when it comes to naming this factor, I am in doubt. I have named this factor 'academic achievement' initially but would it be more precise to call it 'academic performance' or something else?
Do you know any formal definition of academic achievement or academic performance in education research? What is the difference between the two?

If I managed to understand your doubt, it is as follows, academic performance is how you absorb knowledge, through some kind of evaluation. However, to measure their diverse abilities, this is subjective, given that their skills can be interpreted as excellent by one teacher and terrible by another.
I think that there could be a kind of average evaluation of Academic Skills, in which a group of teachers could objectively assess how each one perceives their skills and the average would give a good approximation of that.
Therefore, there would be ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE and ACADEMIC SKILLS.

Academic performance has to do with results obtained in a subject or subjects in a teacher made test or examination, over a short period of time.
Academic achievement is the result obtained from a standardized test or examination in a subject or subjects, over a long period of time, and indicative of future career path.
I think Achievement defines more of results gotten from knowledge based, memory centred task while Performance is result gotten more from activity based, hands on task. Achievement test more of memory than skills. Clearly defining the domain of knowledge tested may specify if it is achievement or performance.
Academic performance means getting required marks according to the standards set,
while Academic achievement means reaching a certain level in education and is certified by a certificate indicating success in a certain descpline.
Academic performance may also refer to the process while academic achievement represents overall outcome of performance.
