If I have a 3-ball snyder column in the KD and one ball of the 3-ball snyder column is broken, can I still use it? Will it give me the same results as before?
I use the KD for concentrating my solution (volume deduction) and also for solvent exchange.
It is unlikely that the performnce of the broken "2-ball" column will be as good as the original 3-ball column. It will probably not give the same results but it may be good enough for your needs.

I use the KD to decrease the volume of my solution, which is mix of petroleum hydrocarbons (PHC) & solvents (acetone/hexane). In fact, I add 1mL of Toluene to the solution and by using KD, the volume decreases as the materials evaporate. Cause the boiling point of Toluene is higher., At the end, I should have have mix of PHC & Toluene. Other solvents should be evaporated. Also, my final volume is around 2ml. Actually, concentrating (~2ml) and solvent exchange are done in the KD.
Now, you may have a better view on my experiment! Do you think, is still OK to use the broken 3-ball snyder column (now 2-ball) for that?
Mohamed, If you have access to a 3 ball column that is not broken by all means use it. If you have to make due with what you have you will probably be able to get a similar quality but lower yield with the two ball column, PHC i not a very well definde term Petroleum Hydrocarbon can be as lifgt as methane or heavier than material that boils above 800 c,. It appears hat your separation is beteen Hexane whichboils around 70 C and Toluene hich boil at 111 C. You can probable make that separation with a 2 ball column (if its not leaking) but ypu could lose some toluene in overhead. If the PHC is lighter(lower boiling int) than toluene the separation could be more difficult.
