Do you mean e.g reconfigure network feeds and say switching pf correction capacitors to minimize power loss with varying load centers as Lc's vary with time?
It is possible but not a economical solution . It requires installation of Dynamic Reactive power compensator which is based upon IGBT and based upon compensation , firing angle is decided . It is now becoming a practise for large load like Metro system , etc .
Reconfiguration allows load balancing and reduces the power loss. However, number of switching may be limited in a day. Therefore, my question was to know the criterion we should follow in online reconfiguration since loads are frequently changes.
I understand your point. This is a good idea and has high potential of doing research. However, this task should be overcome by conducting a feasibility study since in R&D and planning stages before implementing in a real system. Consequently, the problem of selecting proper criterions for online reconfiguration is valuable.
These are the basics problem should be evaluated;
1) a design (not yet be designed) and worth of using tie CB (compare with tie switch),
2) operation strategies, break before make (cause power quality problems) or make before break (costly),
3) philosophy of protection coordination, it should be maintained and effective on selected reconfigure topologies,
4) optimal location of tie CB, and
5) economics evaluation.
If these problems are solved. We can consider the criteria of online reconfiguration later.
I agree with you that reducing real power loss is a motivation and it can be used as a criteria. The real power loss can be predicted using statistic of real time load data and DG data together with a power flow calculation. Regarding the impacts of DG for a field of network reconfiguration, seasonal reconfiguration of a distribution system due to seasonal biomass fuel DG is on a research .Moreover, some kind of FACs devices applied with distribution system (back to back converter technology) is used to transferred power from difference feeder to mitigate power quality problem is also in progress.
