There are interesting techniques which makes learning productive. One of those are: Gamification technique; teach the students through games, according to different research findings, this technique is more productive than others more in early grades. I don't think there's 'one best way to teach mathematics'. I think that to teach a subject well, you have to find the intersection between the way the teacher would like to present the subject, the way he feels about it and the needs of the students. Two different ways for two teachers and two different audiences can both be excellent

Be dedicated, well prepared, but flexible.

It highly depends on age, talent, and aims of teaching/learning. But in general, you have to have a deep and wide knowledge with motivating real life examples, as well as willing to share your knowledge at the appropriate level. A good teacher is much more better than a good concept.
