For teaching our students about priorities in food waste management I often use the Moerman Ladder. My questions is: what is the original source that should be referred to? Would anyone know a proper reference as best citation for the Ladder of Moerman?

Bazar Dzhumaevich Ulugov I believe Moerman’s Ladder is named after Jochen Moerman in 2010 from his Master’s thesis at Gent University. The term was used publicly later in 2010 by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation (EL&I) which used the term and a pyramid image. Moerman’s Ladder is somewhat analogous with Lansink’s (waste management) Ladder https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladder_van_Lansink which was named after the Member of the Dutch Parliament who proposed it in 1979 to be incorporated into Dutch policy in 1993.[https://www.adlansink.nl/voorbeeld-pagina/] Other similar pyramids include: the Food Recovery Hierarchy in the United States (USEPA, 2014), and the Food Waste Pyramid in the United Kingdom.

Thank you all! A Dutch report (2010) by min. of Agriculture (LNV, predecessor of ELI) refers to a pilot study called "Nuttige toepassingen van organische reststromen" and this is how far it gets. See https://edepot.wur.nl/139431 for the Dutch version. Toine Timmermans of Wageningen UR now told me the ladder was brought up as variation on Lansink's ladder indeed by Bram Moerman, a Dutch food professional, in an internal workshop in 2008/9 at the min. of Agriculture indeed. Mystery solved!
