USDA measures coldness regarding plant cultivation by calculating the average absolute annual minimum temperature of a location over a period of time. Instead of this the American Horticulture Society (AHS) measures heat situation by calculating the average number of days per year with temperature above 30 degrees Celsius. Would it be reasonable and may be useful to evaluate heat situation by calculating the average of absolute maximum temperature and vice versa to measure coldness level by calculating the average number of days per year with minimum temperature under zero degree Celsius?
