epoxy is liquid so by using the ultrasonic to improve the dispersion on clay will me easy so far and the result will be good also , I used to used the same method last 3 years and got exfoliation structure inside the epoxy matrix
Nanoemulsion having rationalized hydrophilic and hydrophobic component could be effective medium followed by sonication. The nanoemulsions in general produce higher friccohesity with weaker cohesive forces and higher percolating ability (higher viscosity) which could lead to disperse the hybrid nanocomposite.
so are the nanoparticles included in PP or PE particles. How large are these. Or do you want to disperse the particles alone, which are now included in polymer matrix. If you name it filler, the polymer would be inside the nanoparticles, which sounds strange.
I have polymer matrix ( polypropylene- melting ppint 180 _ 100g) want to add filler ( nanoparticles such as carbon nanotubes also graphene oxide as hybrid filler different percentage 1-5%) by using the melt blending method
Do you have the capability of ultrasonic homogenizer with high power? These devices make a differenceI think. something like this https://www.hielscher.com/50h_p.htm
For the better dispersion of nano clay or CNT, u can use the modification of nano particles using saline treatment of the fiber and clay particles. After saline treatment mechanical stirring and high shear homogenizer operation can be performed.
You can refer to this publication for the surface treatment:
thank you for your sharing , it is useful for nanocaly after treatment , but if we use the melt blending method will see agglomaration of nanoclay inside the polymer matrix
In our work, we generally used to mechanically stir the clay in to epoxy resin on hot plat by enhancing the temp of the epoxy to achieve lesser density, then ultrasonicate for desired time and then homogenize the mixture. And results were quite acceptable and exfoliation of the clay particle somehow achieved. clay used (closite 30B), with MBrace epoxy resin, Glass fiber unidirectional.
