Hi!

Best method to define the modes, if you are doing on CST, use Eigen mode analysis which will give you so many modes. Then you will have to decide after seeing the vector field notation of electric or magnetic at your desired frequency. You will get all components in x, y , z directions. then if your mode is TM, check Hz component is zero or TE check Ez component is zero. other method you can check the vector notation and see the direction of Electric and Magnetic field. Third method, you can design your antenna using MATLAB, set the frequency and calculate the eigen values, plot the dispersion diagram of that particular mode and match that result with CST, HFSS or ADS.
