I'd try a virtual ant. Its purpose is to follow the edges of the C carriers. Important is, it should learn on its course. Its recognizer must update while walking around, and try to move on neighboring points with a similar environmental pattern. If the ant encounters an obstacle, it should look over it in the main walking direction, whether there's a continuation.
