Hello there, I would like your opinions on what's the best Java text book out there for someone who wants to start learning Java from scratch.
I have experience with various books, but the best I came across so far is "Java: How to Program" by Deitel & Deitel.

For me, the best java book to learn java from the beggining is Thinking in Java. (http://www.mindview.net/Books/TIJ/). As starting point it could be very useful.

Core Java by Cay Horstmann - its what I used to learn Java from scratch. I now prefer Java as my main language of preference.
