Theano is a specialized toolbox for creating deep and convolutional neural networks. I would say it is the best software you can find for that exact purpose.
Pros: support for symbolical computation, tutorials and great community, build-in support for GPU

"These days I'm using Theano (developed and maintained at the machine learning lab, University of Montreal). Theano is a python library that provides a facility to build a symbolic computational graph with a transparent interface to GPU (CUDA).
Other than Theano and Matlab, I haven't used other libraries for deep learning research purpose. Though, I heard that Torch tends to give a slightly better performance (in terms of computation). "

I think Theano is a very powerful and flexible toolbox for deep neural network.
Personally, I think that for speech recognition purposes, another toolkit you should consider is Kaldi.
Kaldi is a complete speech recognition software, which also embeds a deep neural network toolkit.
Advantages: very easy to use
Cons: not as flexible as Theano
