thank you for your interest. off course we are using water in this solution, but we are looking for alternative to Phosphoric Acid to use it with sulfuric acid
Perchloric acid (5-10%) in ethanol is often used for carbon steels. You could look up Struers A2 electrolyte for a more precise composition commercially available.
H3PO4 has been widely used in electro-polishing process of steel. We regard it as the best choice.
If you want to get rid of P, you can try below formulation.
HClO4 (5%)+ CH3CH2OH
When you treat with different types of steel, the concentration of HCl04 may change a little. This is decided by the content of C in steel.
