I know that magnons are quasi-particles which are the misaligned spins in an atom at low temperatures. These are also called as spin waves.Could anyone please explain me, the above, in a much detailed manner? Also what exactly do you mean by one- magnon or two-magnon scattering?
One magnon scattering is the description of how a single spin wave changes as it propagates in the medium; two magnon scattering is the description of how two spin waves interact.
Single magnon scattering is the usual spin wave propagation in a medium whereby eneergy s transferred in to the lattice by optical phonon scattering . Two magnon scatterng occurs when two spin waves interact at an impurity or discontinuity site in a way that transfers energy between the two spin waves and dissipates some of their energy in the impurity or discontinuity site.
