The filters have been glorified in the same way by their order, as it is done for spatial discretization. Sadly, when we filter, the filtered variable is different from unfiltered variable. That makes it zeroth order. However, researchers try to glorify their computing by claiming that their filter is higher order than somebody else's work. Can we put a stop to this?
Prahladh S. Iyer : One can understand your logic, but when you write down the order of an expansion by Taylor series, then the lead truncated term defines your your order of expansion. So what goes on in the usage by various researchers makes absolutely no sense. For example, when you say that you are using second order filter, then trying matching up to second derivative, then your transfer function is trivially equal to one!
