Over past few days, while teaching my students, I realized the paradox (individuals paradox, my name for it) in medical teaching, training and management. While our entire research and training is public health intensive ( population based samples/ population based estimates of risk factors etc) our management is individual specific. for example; On the basis of population based studies, we estimate the mean fall of BP in a population with a specific intervention, and ask our patients to use that intervention, for example brisk walk. Instead why dont we declare a mall road or entire shopping complex, no traffic zone.

Is it the medical companies or our own obsession with practice of individual specific medical practice.
