1. Whether hybrid varieties of medicinal plants are to be introduced in the agricultural sector.
2. Whether the production of already growing medicinal plants in the areas of West Bengal are to be enhanced.
3. Whether the phytoceuticals of the medicinal plants are to be enhanced by applying biotechnology.
4. I think the time of harvesting, method of drying and storage of the medicinal plants need to be taken care of.
If you think I can be of some help, I will be glad to provide as I am presently posted in Kolkata and wish to get involved in such projects where medicinal plant propagation and cultivation is taken up.

Many important points are to be considered before commercial production of any medicinal plant.
1. The famous medicinal plant - Withania somnifera show difference in phytochemicals between the samples of wild plant and cultivated one in such an extent that can affect it's efficacy. So, proposal of different nomenclature of cultivated one as W. ashwagandha is there.
2. Concentration of phytochemicals varies at different maturity level of the plant and perhaps on soil, fertilizer etc.
3. I think we are far away from use of biotechnology in commercial production of medicinal plants.
4. There are many so called weed plants which, I think, will be considered as medicinal plant in future.
As per my idea, use of Medicinal plants for healthcare practices is still in it's infancy.
Let us wait for a bright future as a result of thoughts research.

Expected outcome of a project is the result that the researcher hoping to deliver after the successful completion of the project viz., approval/disapproval of hypothesis, making original contribution to knowledge, filling gaps in existing work, extending understanding of particular topics. The outcomes could be quantitative or qualitative or both.
Dr Munshi...you have addressed many points of concern related to MAPs. Though you have pointed West Bengal several times, I think all the concerns are of general in nature and befitting to whole India or even to the whole world where specific MAPs are being grown. Basic and fundamental research on these crops is the immediate need. Introduction of biotechnology or breeding advancements leading to hybrid development should come in the way whenever required.....but not as a must-to-do approach.
Personally I am also doing in this direction and submitted one project to NMPB on Withania for consideration in West Bengal(Kalyani Nadia...very close to Kolkata) and it would be fantastic if we have some opportunities to share, collaborate and work hand in hand together.
Thank you @Amit Baran. Since I am posted in Kolkata that is why I focus on the area. Otherwise global popularization of Medicinal Plant wealth which our country possesses needs to be propagated.
I will feel pleased if I can be of some help in this regard. You can incorporate me in any such project which deals with MAP's.
