I have a very fundamental question regarding a power system. How can I convince and educate someone who doesnt have background in power system about the importance of buses? I know that they are connecting nodes and play a role in the load flow study but why cant the generators,loads, governors be directly connected in a power system without intermediate connection of buses?

Bus is simply a substation or more importantly you can visualize it as a busbar where incoming and outgoing circuits are connected.
As you can imagine, it's difficult to connect transformer, circuit breaker to generator terminals....it's much easier if you've a bus bar and connect it over there...much less messy and neat in the latter case

This results in a discrepancy or power loss that can be measured only after the load flow solution is applied. The slack bus supplies the complex's losses and is still equipped with a generator to meet unmet demand from other buses.

In simple words: a bus is a set of three nodes at which three-phase elements are tied together. Since wires ideally have no impedance, they may also be considered as part of the bus.
